As many of you might now know, the domestic RHI scheme is coming to an end on 31st March 2022 and therefore anyone wanting to apply needs to have their system commissioned and running on or before this date.

We are expecting there to be a rush of activity in the months leading up to this date so we are trying to give people the heads up on main qualifying criteria for the scheme so everyone can get everything arranged well in advance of 31st March 2022. The full rules for the domestic RHI scheme can be found on the link to the Ofgem guidance document at the end of this article.

The main documents needed for an RHI applications are:

  • · MCS certificate - this can only be generated once the heat pump has been commissioned,
  • · Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) -  the type of EPC required will depend on whether your house is a new build or existing house, see section below.
  • · Paid invoices or receipts - these needed to be uploaded on the application as proof that the system has been fully paid for and that you provided a financial contribution. If we are contracted to your builder rather than the owner Ofgem may want to see that you have in turn paid your builder to prove a financial contribution.

EPC

A valid EPC is required for the domestic RHI application which must be less than 2 years old. Most existing dwellings can have a normal EPC done however a new build or conversion must have a SAP EPC. We are not able to do SAP EPCs so this will need to arranged yourself. The EPC must be done before 31st March 2022. SAP EPCs can take time to arrange so it is worth starting the process and getting them booked in as early as possible.

For more details, please see the Ofgem Essential Guide for Applicants.

We will be sending out further guidance on the closure of the RHI to all existing customers in due course. If you have any specific questions relating to your project or a project you are working on please do not hesitate to contact us
