Project specification

  • Property type: Country estate
  • Technologies installed:
  • Collector type:
  • Size (kW): NA
  • New/retrofit: Retrofit

isoenergy was approached by the new owners of Cullverlands Farm in Berkshire, to design and install a ground source heat pump installation. The brief was to provide a complete heating and hot water solution for the existing farmhouse, which was being renovated, as well as a large, new build extension which was to be added once planning had been approved.

Having reviewed the site and liaised with the architect in regard to the future extension, isoenergy specified a 22kW ground source heat pump connected to a 800L hot water cylinder and 300L heating buffer tank to cover the loads on site. In the adjoining paddock, we laid five 250m horizontal collector loops in five 125m trenches excavated by the main contractor. As the client was upgrading to a three-phase supply to accommodate the future extension and car-charging points, isoenergy specified a three-phase heat pump that could be balanced across the incoming supply.

As the plant room was situated remotely from the main house, isoenergy determined and installed two pre-insulated pipes, buried in a trench, which linked the two buildings together.

The installation of a ground source heat pump has significantly reduced both the running costs and carbon emissions of the building whilst also future-proofing the building against changes to legislation around domestic heating.

Key features:

  • 22kW ground source heat pump system
  • 5 x 125m collector loop horizontal trenches
  • 800 litre hot water tank
  • 300 litre buffer tank
