Installing a heat pump system is one of the most effective things a household can do to reduce carbon output and control running costs. Until the end of March 2022, the Renewable Heat Incentive was available to help improve the system’s payback and encourage uptake of the technology. As the RHI is now closed to new applications, the Boiler Upgrade Scheme has been released to offer a one-off payment towards the installation cost instead.
How much do I get under the Boiler Upgrade scheme?
The current grant for installing an eligible heat pump system is £7,500.
How does the Boiler Upgrade Scheme work?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is a one-off payment an installer can apply for on your behalf. Once it has been applied for, you will be asked for your consent to issue a voucher to the installer. Once this is done, the value of the grant is then deducted from the final cost of the system and the installer can then redeem your voucher once the system is commissioned. Effectively, we would take the value of the voucher off the cost of the system for you. There is no application process for you to have to worry about, so it is easier for you than the RHI was.
To receive the grant, there are certain criteria that need to be met:
- The system must be commissioned (Turned on) after April 1st 2022
- The property must have an Energy Performance Certificate with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity insulation. Or you must be able to prove the steps are impossible (solid walls, listed building etc.)
- The system must be installed by an MCS registered installer such as isoenergy.
- The system must be under 45kW total output.
- The system must be replacing your current fossil fuel, or direct electric heating system and cannot be used when exchanging one heat pump system for another.
