A question we receive time and time again from heat pump owners is, "Do ground source heat pumps need servicing?" Just like other heating systems, heat pumps need to be serviced at least once a year. Isoenergy’s Joe Hannan explains how keeping your heat pump serviced is not only needed to keep the system running efficiently but is necessary to keep the manufacturer’s warranty valid and your renewable heat incentive payments from being interrupted in the case of a breakdown.

Why is it important to service a heat pump?

The importance of maintaining and servicing your heat pump system cannot be overstated. If not undertaken, it can lead to inefficient operation, increased running costs, and in worst cases, premature failure.

If you are a recipient of the Domestic Renewable Heating Incentive (RHI) scheme, a fully compliant system requires homeowners to provide evidence that the system is ‘in good working order', throughout the seven-year term of the scheme. If your heat pump is your primary heating and cooling system rather than a supplemental system, you might want to schedule maintenance twice a year — in the autumn and again in the spring.

What is included in a heat pump maintenance package?

For systems installed by isoenergy, we will always recommend an isoenergy heat pump maintenance agreement so you don’t have to worry about those potential scenarios. Service and maintenance contracts can be taken out for a range of periods; one year, three years or even seven years. These contracts offer you savings on services, call outs for repairs, and access to support 24 hours a day for emergencies.
