After the chancellor’s autumn statement last week, the policy briefing explaining the background to the headlines is starting to catch up.

There is a lot of detail still to come, and in the mid-term some more significant changes will happen, but in the short-term the RHI will continue much as it has done.

DECC has been providing some much needed clarity on the Renewable Heat Incentive’s future to industry partners and steering groups. As we understand it, things are going to continue in the short-term without any major changes. DECC states its long-term intention is to ‘radically reform’ the RHI following a consultation which will be announced in the New Year with an aim of implementing the changes in March 2017. At this time no one, not even DECC, is sure what those changes might be.

However, overall funding for the RHI is actually going up, which is good news. When the Chancellor announced savings of £700m, that seems to have been a political statement against some notional expenditure that no-one had confirmed!

So, if you have been unsure as to whether the RHI will be around by the time you complete your project, assuming you will have the system commissioned in 2016, it certainly looks like the RHI will be there to support you.
