Dating back to the 16th century, Plas Llansteffan is a Grade II* listed manor house in Carmarthenshire overlooking Llansteffan beach.

The owners were renovating the property and wanted to replace the old oil-fired central heating with a sustainable energy system. isoenergy specified a 51kW CTC ground source heat pump with an 800L hot water cylinder and 500L heating buffer tank to provide and store all of the building’s heating and hot water throughout the year.

The plant equipment was connected to seven 145m boreholes drilled within the grounds of the building. The plant room was set within the cellar meaning the proposed plant equipment had to be carefully considered to ensure it fitted within the reduced access.

The heat pump has reduced the carbon emissions of the building by over 70%, equivalent to almost 22,000kg/ CO2 per annum.

Key features:

  • CTC 51kW ground source heat pump
  • Sigma 800L hot water cylinder
  • 500L buffer tank
