Sherbrooke House in the Cotswolds is a traditionally built house with a modern extension. The owners of the house had been using fuel oil and three oil boilers to heat their home, which meant sky high bills.

The owners were keen to move away from fossil fuel completely and wanted to install a ground source heat pump. However, there was insufficient electrical supply to cover the entire house’s heating requirements with a heat pump so one of the three boilers was left docked to the new 22kW Ecoforest ground source heat pump system. This bi-valent system will call on the oil boiler in the depths of winter to supplement the heat pump. During the extreme cold snap in 2017, the oil boiler only was called upon for four days meaning almost all of the load is being carried by the heat pump.

Energy for the heat pump is collected from a nearby stream using an EnergyBlade river heat exchanger.

Key features:

  • 22kW inverter-driven ground source heat pump
  • 1 x EnergyBlade river heat exchanger
  • Provides heating and hot water
  • Backup oil boiler for periods of extreme heating demand
