Llewenau Draw is a period farmhouse set within the Brecon Beacons. The owners wanted to reduce the property's carbon footprint and future proof the building.
The property was set away from the mains gas grid and relied on a combination of an oil boiler and electric storage radiators to provide heating and hot water throughout the year.
isoenergy completed extensive design calculations to understand the exact requirements of the buildings as well as a full heat emitter assessment to ensure the adequate sizing of new radiators to replace the storage radiators. isoenergy recommended a 22kW Ecoforest ground source heat pump connected to an 800L hot water cylinder and 300L buffer tank. In an adjoining field we installed 1,800 metres of collector pipework. The heat pump was integrated with the oil boiler due to the limited incoming electrical supply. The boiler provides a top-up to the heat pump in the depths of winter and a back-up in case of emergencies.
Our client can now expect a significant reduction in running costs without compromising on comfort. The carbon reduction will be over 70% and the building is future proofed against any incoming legislation as the decarbonisation of heat continues apace.
