Berwick Church is a Grade I listed building that dates back to the 12th century. The church was undergoing renovation work of its roof, floor, and underfloor heating system.

The church had ambitions to pursue their ongoing commitment to improving the carbon footprint of the building by moving away from the night storage heaters and towards something renewable.

As part of the renovation, isoenergy was asked to design and install a ground source heat pump that could heat the church through the new underfloor heating system.

The nearby land was not suitable for a horizontal ground loop array due to the limited size, instead, a vertical borehole array was drilled.

Four 160 metre deep boreholes were drilled and the collector pipes were installed to harness the renewable energy in the ground.

Since the installation, the church has been benefiting from both reduced monthly heating costs and reduced carbon emissions. A win for the church and a win for the environment.
