isoenergy was asked to provide a renewable energy solution in order to reduce the running costs and carbon footprint of these care homes. We designed a combined system of an air source heat pump as well as solar photovoltaic and solar thermal.
A large air source heat pump provided heating and hot water to the building. The heat in the air is extracted and used to heat water which is either used as hot water or distributed through the building via radiators.
A substantial system of 54 monocrystalline solar photovoltaic panels generates electricity to be used in the building; any excess is exported to the grid. Each panel can generate 185 Watts so the total system can generate 9.99 kW.
Seven solar thermal panels provide free heat from the sun during summer months to contribute to the hot water in the building.
