Recently isoenergy completed the installation of a ground source heat pump within the grounds of the Hampton Estate in Surrey.

This system is now responsible for displacing all the oil-fired heating for the mansion house, estate office and gardener’s cottage.

The project was conceived in late 2020 by owners Bridget and Bill who were keen to understand what they could do to reduce carbon emissions and provide forward-thinking sustainability for the estate. Following a technical survey and consultation, it was decided that removing the fossil fuel-fired heating system offered the largest carbon reduction for the estate, approximately 34,300kgCO2/annum, a deduction of about 72%.

In late summer work commenced, the collector array for the ground source heat pump was installed within the lake and pipework was routed from there to the heat pump plant room. The plant room was hand-built using timber from the estate in keeping with the idea of sustainability and keeping the carbon footprint of the project low. Once the groundworks had been completed the heat pump was installed and in early December, once the new power supply had been connected, the oil boiler was removed, and the heat pump system commissioned.DSCF1531 Medium

This is another great example of a fine country house removing its reliance on fossil fuels and taking a step towards a more sustainable future.

We received a quote from the owners of the home who gave an insight into their initial thoughts and feelings when considering renewable heating, plus their experience with the isoenergy team.

“Installing a lake source heating system into a Grade 2 listed house and cottage was a totally new experience for us. It required a huge leap of faith. We had no idea whether the technology would be appropriate for the property, with an ancient existing oil-fired heating system. Was it going to provide us with what we required? ISO energy has been incredibly helpful, supportive, informative, and genuinely reassuring before, and throughout the entire contract period. Their work has been timely and undertaken to a high standard, and once commissioned instruction on how to operate the system has been excellent. We are reassured to know that we will have an ongoing maintenance contract with ISO energy, and we are pleased to recommend their work.”
