As global temperatures, sea levels and concerns over the effects of climate change continue to rise, so does the renewable energy capacity of many nations around the world. Wales is one such nation which now generates around 25% of its electricity and 13% of its heat requirement from renewable energy sources such as ground source heat pumps.

With 32% of renewable heat and 34% of renewable electricity capacity in Wales under domestic ownership, it is clear that customers are now taking responsibility for their energy consumption and looking to reduce their carbon footprint at the household level.

According to Regen, in 2018, 1,566 new, locally-owned renewable energy projects were installed, 906 of which were solar PV projects and 485 were heat pumps. This signifies not only an enthusiasm for renewable energy in Wales but also reinforces the viability of renewable projects in the country.

As the nation continues to progress towards its target for Welsh renewables to generate electricity equal to 70% of Wales’s consumption by 2030, it is clear that domestic renewable energy systems will be a key factor.

If you would like to find out how you can be part of the progress towards the renewable energy targets in Wales and more about the government support available to achieve it, please contact the Isoenergy team today and ask for our Western office 01293 821345
