This church in East Sussex was previously heated by night storage heaters. As part of the church’s ongoing commitment to improving its carbon footprint, isoenergy was asked to design and install a ground source heat pump system.

The church itself has a heating load of just under 24kW. As part of a renovation project, the church installed underfloor heating. The Swedish CTC ground source heat pump provides all the heating for the church from a plant room, situated in an outbuilding. The plant room is connected to the church’s heating distribution through a short run of pre-insulated pipe. It is expected the new heating system will save the church 70% off its heating bills.

An array of five 120m boreholes was installed by Synergy Boreholes to provide energy to the heat pump. With limited space available, a horizontal collector array was not feasible.

Key features:

  • 24kW CTC ground source heat pump system
  • Provides heating only
  • 500 litre buffer tank
