Isoenergy has been selected to design and install a biomass boiler plant room for a new sports centre at the Axholme Academy in Crowle, North Lincolnshire.

The Axholme North Sports Centre will have a 4 lane 25m swimming pool, gym, fitness studio, tennis and netball courts, and a multi-use games area for football, hockey and other sports. The project was organised by North Lincolnshire Council and is seen as a major investment for the benefit of residents across North Lincolnshire.

The installation of the biomass boiler system results from review of the energy costs at all council owned buildings. The Council’s target is to reduce carbon emissions to 13,650 tonnes over the next five years.

Working with Ridings Consulting Isoenergy developed the design for the biomass plant and associated fuel store. The plant room consists of two Viessmann Vitoflex 300kW pellet boilers with fuel stored in a first floor pellet hopper with funnel extractors. The Viessmann boilers were chosen for their high efficiency levels (up to 92%), and low emissions through regulated primary and secondary air supply and low particle combustion with double-pass heat exchangers and modulating output control (4:1 control range).

Construction on site is well underway with the boilers due to be delivered to site soon. Isoenergy has been working alongside the mechanical contractor, Robinsons MEA and main contractor Harry Fairclough Construction.
