Water Harvesting
Solar thermal panels are used to harness solar radiation to produce hot water. They are carbon neutral post manufacture and, if correctly installed, will help reduce energy bills. During the summer, this system would meet most, if not all, hot water needs. However, when using this method during the winter, the hot water supply would need to be boosted by using alternative means. The ever-growing demand for Water and the increased costs this incurs along with the risk of localised flooding and the pressure this places on drainage, has elevated rainwater harvesting to an important environmental position within the UK. The 2006 Code for Sustainable Homes requires a reduction in water consumption for all new builds and rainwater harvesting can provide a viable, simple and cost effective solution to meet these goals.
