Archimedes Screw
2 x 15kW Ground Source Heat Pump Solution
Heat collector plates concealed in leat
The 2 x 15kW ground source heat pump solution, illustrated below is powered by an Archimedes Screw in a leat adjacent to the Mill House.
The heat pumps are coupled to a collector array heat exchanger, comprising steel plates located in the race beneath the Archimedes Screw and provide 100% of the heating and hot water to the property.
The outcome is that the client is self sufficient on an annual cycle, and does not need a back up gas or oil fired boiler.
The Archimedes Screw generates excess electricity in the summer, which is effectively “banked” with the grid for “withdrawal” in winter, during periods of peak demand.
Running costs have been minimised and the project benefits from the Feed In Tariff on the Archimedes Screw.
The scheme may be eligible for the Renewable Heat Incentive Phase 2, on the heat pumps, in 2013 subject to confirmation of Department for Energy and Climate Change proposals for the subsidy regime. Please contact us to discuss your requirements or for further information.
