Broadhurst Manor is a grade II* listed building in Sussex that has undergone extensive refurbishment and modernisation. The house was previously heated by oil fired boilers, one of which the owners wanted to replace with a more renewable heating solution. One oil boiler is still installed as emergency back-up.

isoenergy was asked to design and install a system which would help the owners to achieve their goal of a renewable heating system. A ground source heat pump system was designed and the availability of the lake as an energy source made the installation cheaper and easier.

A 60 kW heat pump installed by isoenergy provides heating and hot water. The collector array consists of 2,400 metres of pipe in a lake near the house; using a lake is preferable due to the better thermal conductivity of water compared to the ground and the fact that no trenches are required.
