Isoenergy has now completed the installation of a 400kW air source heat pump for a prestigious new development at Bridgford Garden Centre near Nottingham.

The new development provides a totally undercover retail space including a farm shop and new indoor play centre including a 350 seat play café and three further catering outlets. The main building covers approximately 14,500 m2 of the 14 acre site with around 8,000m2 heated by underfloor heating in the slab of the building with the energy provided by the AQUACIAT POWER ILD ST 2000C air source heat pump.

Working alongside Natta Building, VWG Mechanical and the client, Isoenergy designed the concept system in advance of the project starting on site. With circa 200kW of PV planned to be installed on the roof of the new building and no mains gas on site the client wished to minimise future running costs. Both ground source heat pumps and air source heat pumps were considered and modelled initially, but in the end the air source delivered the required low running costs with less disruption to the site and the landscaping required for the car park area. With a tight build programme before the site was handed over to the tenant of the building for fit out, keeping disruption to a minimum was very important and the air source solution had this advantage over the ground source option.

The heat pump provides all of the heating for the under floor heating in the building and also provides the base load of the hot water requirement for the kitchens and bathrooms. There is a small LPG boiler included in the system for times of high hot water demand but the heat pump is sized to be able to cover the whole load under normal operation.
