Having bought this mill house in need of total renovation, the new owners were keen to use the mill pond as an energy source to reduce their carbon footprint.

After talking to isoenergy it was determined that the mill pond was too small to use coiled pipe in. It was however, large enough to put a set of EnergyBlade river heat exchangers in the stream behind a small weir. The EnergyBlades are connected to the ground source heat pump in the plantroom next to the stream.

The heat pump is an inverter driven model from Ecoforest which can modulate its output based on the outdoor temperature so that the running costs are kept low. Heat is then piped to the house a short distance away using highly insulated pipe buried underground.

The heat pump system produces all of the heating for the house along with 500l of hot water which is stored in the plantroom.

Isoenergy installed a 22kW inverter driven ground source heat pump with energy collected from a set of EnergyBlades in the near by stream. All of the spacial heating and hot water is provided by the heat pump system throughout the year.
