Yes, however, Biomass operates on the principle of a closed carbon cycle. The idea is that the carbon absorbed by the fuel when it is being burned is reabsorbed by other fuel being grown.
The renewability of Biomass depends on sustaining the growth of fuel to absorb the released carbon and keep the burners themselves powered. Without the supply chain and availability of fuel, the system starts to break down.
That all depends on the property and how readily available the fuel is.
The majority of Biomass recommendations come from properties that already have access to large amounts of wood for biomass boilers. However, Biomass is not as easy as just burning the wood available. The fuel needs to be kept completely dry and can be a temperamental and laborious process to harness. For this reason an alternative fuel, like pellets, may be more appropriate.
At present few pellets are manufactured in the UK so most have to be transported from Europe.
Wood chips are sourced in various locations in the UK and are more suited to large houses where the wood chip can be stored and kept dry.
In general people do not have enough storage space for Biomass. If you think your oil storage was large, wait until you see this!
